Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 23, 2026
Pattern is made by Hugo Software. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does with data. The short version: we collect nothing.
We collect no personal data
Pattern has no user accounts, no sign-in, no registration and no email collection. We cannot identify you, and we do not want to.
The camera
Pattern is a live kaleidoscope camera. It asks for the Android camera permission the first time you use it.
While the app is open, the camera image is used only to draw the kaleidoscope on your screen, in real time, on your device. The camera feed is not recorded, not saved, not uploaded and not shared with anyone. It exists in memory for as long as it takes to draw the next frame, and nothing more.
The app never uses the camera in the background. If you decline the camera permission, Pattern still works — it falls back to a generated demo texture so you can try every feature.
Your photos and videos stay on your device
Photos and videos you capture in Pattern are saved to the app's own local storage on your phone. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
You can delete any capture from the in-app gallery at any time, and uninstalling the app removes all of them. When you tap Share, the standard Android share sheet opens and the file goes only to the app you pick.
No ads, no analytics, no tracking
Pattern contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK. There is no advertising identifier collection, no profiling, no third-party tracker of any kind, and no data is shared with or sold to anyone.
No payments
The app is completely free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no paid features, so we never see any payment information.
The one network request
On start-up, Pattern may fetch a small configuration file from our own server (feature flags and, occasionally, an announcement message). This request carries no personal data, no advertising identifier and no account identifier — our server sees only the ordinary technical information that accompanies any web request, such as an IP address, which we do not use to build profiles of users. If the request fails, the app works normally offline.
Children
Pattern is not directed at children. Because the app collects no data at all, it collects no data from children either.
Your rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete the personal data a company holds about you. We hold none. Everything you make lives only on your device, entirely under your control — delete individual captures in the gallery, or uninstall the app to remove everything.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
